Bedrock Buildings builds for two to three clients per year and helps a number of others with design, skill building and other technical assistance. This way, we can guarantee that all of our clients receive the best possible customer service and attention. We will be there for you throughout all stages of your project.
We operate in the Scottish Highlands and focus on building structures with integrity from locally sourced timber, sent to our yard in Cannich. Our builds exhibit harmony with their surroundings, increase occupant well-being and create spaces that connect inhabitants to the natural environment.

In the Scottish Highlands
Located in the Highlands, Bedrock Buildings is sited on a rib of rock above Strathglass and looks towards Glen Affric. The site characterises the ethos of Bedrock Buildings and the free spirit that led to its creation. The site inspires and welcomes those who visit.

Bedrock’s Story
I have been working with wood and round logs for over a decade. At ages 14 & 15, my brother and I decided to build ourselves a log cabin with the guidance of our mentor, Cormac.
I enjoyed building the log cabin so much I immediately built another log building, a 30-metre-long timber clad workshop and gym. This was followed by an oak post and beam office cantilevered out onto the gorge below our home.
For my master’s thesis, I looked into stress grading round logs using acoustics, which fueled a desire to help develop a recognised grading system for round timber.
Neighbours, friends, and family began asking about the possibilities of using round logs in a series of different projects. These enquiries confirmed that a viable market in log building was present and needed.
From the start of my log building interest Cormac had been there to help guide and and consult, offering a wealth of knowledge and expertise. With his own ambitions to start a log building company and school, he quickly became involved. We have been working together for over a decade now on multiple projects, integrating different build styles and broadening our knowledge base.
Bedrock Buildings is a start-up company becoming a limited liability in 2021.
Our aim is to become industry leaders in log construction. We believe normalising log construction is hugely important to achieving a sustainable construction industry. We believe that log buildings create inspirational and calming environments to live and work.
